While working as a student intern at Cal State Fullerton’s Studio 495, the College of the Arts and Associated Students, Inc. placed on open call for design submissions for their annual university Arts Week event, the campus’s weeklong celebration of art as therapy, stress management, and creative expression. With the theme titled, “Arts For Humanity,” a play on the popular Cards Against Humanity card game, student designers were each asked to create a series of logos, event branding, and campaign collateral that both harkened back to the iconic party game, and also included elements of artistic creativity and originality. For the assignment, I began by mimicking the iconic Helvetica font style of the original game design and implementing hand-lettering, organic paint splatters, and eye-catching colors for an expressive, humanistic quality. Finally, I added original vector illustrations and icon designs to represent the various concentrations and areas of study within the College of the Arts that the university currently offers. Collateral for this campaign included creating the 2018 Arts for Humanity logo, printed and digital letter sized posters, various large-scale printed schedule of event vinyl wall posters, and black and white versions of the design for t-shirts, reusable water bottles, lanyards, sunglasses, and pens, as well as A-frame signage and flag designs for future Arts Weeks in a non-campaign-specific style.
